New Research – Breastfeeding Moms Don’t Get Less Sleep

One of the myths that new parents often hear about is that mothers of formula fed babies sleep better at night. Not so according to researchers at the West Virginia University. Breastfeeding women have higher levels of the hormone prolactin, which promotes sleep. When mothers wake up for night time feedings they tend to be awake for a shorter time, are less active and therefore return to sleep more quickly.
