Breastfeeding can be an intensely emotional time for a mother, and having someone there to help you through the ups and downs who has the knowledge and experience to ensure the health of your baby and you is an important factor. For her ability to be this person, Lynne Brazil was nominated:
Lynne Brazil, Public Health Nurse at Majors Path, was an unbelievable support to me on my breastfeeding journey! From the moment I found out I was pregnant, I knew that I wanted to breastfeed my baby, so I was devastated when she was born and it didn’t look like it was going to work for us. My little girl was willing, but it just wasn’t working, she was losing weight at an alarming rate, and I really thought breastfeeding wouldn’t be in our future. Lynne made sure this didn’t happen. She went so far above and beyond to help me breastfeed my little one, while making sure my daughter was safe and healthy. She weighed my daughter almost daily and counted and celebrated every little ounce gained along with me, she provided so much information, and showed me so many different ways of ensuring my daughter received the breast milk I so wanted her to have, and most importantly, she sat with a new mother that was feeling so inadequate and told her that she was doing everything she could for her baby. At that moment, that meant so much to me because I honestly felt like I was letting my daughter down and I cannot tell you how much I needed to hear that I wasn’t. I can never thank her enough for the support she offered at such a difficult time. Today marks my initial goal of breastfeeding for six months and I’m so happy to say that neither my daughter nor I are close to ending our breastfeeding relationship. If it wasn’t for Lynne’s support when I felt like giving up, we wouldn’t be celebrating this milestone today.
